Dear Friend of Teatro Nuovo,
We are all well aware by now of the economic disruption the Covid-19 shutdown has brought to the arts, and in particular to the lives of freelance musicians, who now face unprecedented difficulties with no clear resolution in sight. I am writing today to ask you to join Teatro Nuovo in helping those who would have been employed in our 2020 festival and training program by donating to the Bel Canto 2020 Artist Relief Fund.
Our goal is to create a $100,000 fund, of which every dollar will be disbursed directly in July to the approximately one hundred individuals - soloists, chorus, orchestra members, faculty, and seasonal staff - who would have been with us. Our Board of Directors, our executive staff, and a generous additional donor have joined to pledge a dollar-for-dollar match for each new gift received before July 1, up to a total of $50,000.
Thanks to our faithful supporters, Teatro Nuovo is ready to plan for 2021 and beyond, and to carry on the Bel Canto tradition that uplifts and inspires us for many years to come. Your additional gift now (doubled if given before July 1!) will help us do something equally important: to stand beside by the young men and women who have dedicated their lives to this art, and help them to be ready to rejoin the mission as well.
With sincere gratitude for your support,
Will Crutchfield, General and Artistic Director
P.S. Teatro Nuovo is not inactive during the shutdown; we are providing an intensive, multi-faceted, interactive online version of our traditional training program throughout June and July. As a thank-you for those who are able to contribute $500 or more to the fund, we will send an exclusive web link for selected sessions, allowing you to observe directly the working process that the Wall Street Journal hailed as "transformative." I hope to see you there!
