Teatro Nuovo’s performing debut will be a nine-day festival, July 28-August 5 2018. It will be housed in the beautiful Performing Arts Center of SUNY Purchase – ideally convenient to New York City operagoers and the longtime local audiences of Bel Canto at Caramoor alike.

The headline events will be semi-staged productions of Rossini’s Tancredi and Giovanni Simone Mayr’s Medea in Corinto. Rossini needs no introduction to opera-goers; Mayr, the teacher and lifelong friend of Donizetti, was a towering figure in the early history of Bel Canto and is long overdue for revival.

Also planned are a major orchestral concert featuring instrumental music linked to vocal style and operatic traditions, daily vocal recitals and chamber music programs, and a full range of the master-class, lecture, and panel-discussion events that have built a loyal public on Caramoor opera days.

Full casting and program details will be announced in this space and a forthcoming press release.  In the meantime, please join Teatro Nuovo’s team this summer, during its farewell season of Bel Canto at Caramoor, for Il piratathe petite messe solennellethe Opening Night GalaGarcía’s Un avvertimento ai gelosiand the complete songs of Vincenzo Bellini.
